Greenwich schoolof English
General Course Aims
The course lasts for four weeks and aims to provide initial training in TEFL through a balance of practical teaching experience and varied input sessions. All our courses are carefully monitored by Trinity College London to ensure quality with a Trinity Moderator visiting the school on the last day of the course.

To qualify for the CertTESOL, trainees must attend a course and complete all assignments, including the teaching practice, to the required standard. Successful trainees will be able to demonstrate the following on completion of the course:
Knowledge of the main phonological, lexical and syntactic features of contemporary English
Awareness of learning needs and motivation of learners
Ability to create and maintain learner interest
Ability to prepare lessons plans with achievable aims
Ability to maintain and stimulate active participation among a class of learners
Ability to evaluate and adapt published material and create simple teaching materials
Broad understanding of the main advantages and disadvantages of various language teaching approaches
Ability to evaluate their own effectiveness as teachers
Awareness of post-course development and the structure of the profession
The course consists of four weeks of daily input sessions and is considered a very intensive process. School days generally last from 09.30 until 17.00, Monday to Friday, although some courses may be completed on slightly different hours. Additionally, there are course assignments, which will need to be completed at home in the evening and at weekends.
The vast majority of trainees find the overall experience to be an extremely rewarding and exhilarating one. Owing to the admissions requirements outlined below, we anticipate that the vast majority of trainees will successfully complete the course and gain the certificate. However, failure to meet the criteria as laid out at the start of the course will results in a fail grade.
