The Battle of the Bulge
3 Days/ 2 NightsAlthough, the German Army was expelled from France in August 1944 the Germans were to fight again, notably in the Ardennes offensive in December 1944. The US Army played the major role in this part of the War but there were also memorable British contributions. This mini tour is ideal for groups who have already visited the D-Day Landings area. DAY 1
Depart from the school early morning for the UK ferry port. Arrive in Dinant late afternoon. Time to settle in and explore the local area. Dinner in your accommodationDay 2
Starting in Dinant youll follow the advance of the British troops from Dinant to La Roche, stopping to visit the memorials at Foy-Notre, Celles and Bure, where so many British troops fell; Bande, the scene of one of the massacres perpetrated by the SS on civilians & also Marche-en-Famenne. Your journey will continue to the village of Verdenne (a village that changed hands 5 times in just 4 days); the Hotton Military cemetery and finally La Roche to visit the Battle of the Ardennes Museum. Dinner in your accommodation.Day 3
After breakfast youll depart for the ferry port at Calais, stopping at St Omer to visit La Cou-pole War Museum on route. La Coupole explores the important development of aviation during the war years and is home to an excellent collection of V2 rockets. Time allowing you will be able to visit a hypermarket on route to the port. On arrival in Dover youll con-tinue your journey back to school.Other sites worth visiting
