How can I apply for a course?
Fill in the Application Form and pay either: 1) the full fees or 2) your Registration Fee, course and accommodation deposits, and Accommodation Finding Fee. Our Application Form has more details.
Can the College help me get a visa?
Yes, if you need a visa and you register for a course at the College, we will send you documents to help with your visa application.
Is insurance included in the fees?
No; we strongly recommend you take out travel and medical insurance before you travel.
When can I start my course?
You can start any week, normally on a Monday.
Who should I talk to for advice about exams?
Talk to your teacher or the Director of Studies if you are interested in taking an examination.
How will I be placed in the correct group?
You will take a placement test on the first day of your course and the Director of Studies will place you in the most suitable group for your level.
Who can I talk to if I have a problem with my studies?
Initally you should talk to your teacher and if you still unsure about something you can talk to the Director of Studies'
What is the maximum class size?
The maximum number of students in any class is 15. Normally the average is around 10.
What is the minimum age?
The minimum age is 16.
How many levels are there?
We teach English at sevendifferent levels - Beginner, Elementary, Lower-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced and Proficiency. Our qualified teachers will help you to develop your English skills at each level.
What are the teaching methods?
We have a communicative approach to teaching; your teachers will help you communicate more effectively and clearly in English. Our teachers know that one of the best ways to do this is to make learning enjoyable and engaging. They use a variety of class activities and methods to make the lessons exciting and creative.
You will be encouraged to participate actively in classroom activities, for example in pair work with another student, or group work, or whole class discussions. Your teacher will monitor your use of the English language carefully, and give you individual help and advice.
Your teacher will also use different types of classroom equipment and resources, such as overhead projectors, audio cassettes/CDs, TV/video, newspapers and magazines.
Do I have to buy a book?
It is beneficial and strongly recommended students buy a Course Book. They cost around £15.
Will I be given Homework?
Your teacher will give you Homework 2 or 3 times a week. If you want extra work, please ask your teacher.
What should I bring to the College with me on the first day of my course?
You need to bring your course confirmation letter and a notebook and pen/pencil.
What can I do if I think my class is too easy or too difficult for me?
You can speak to your teacher or to the Director of Studies.
How can I check my progress?
Every month, students have a Progress Test to see how well they are progressing with their English. Your class will be observed regularly, so that we can monitor class progress too.
Can I work and study at the same time?
If are from an EU country, you can work and study. Students from most non-EU countries need to have a Student Visa if they want to work. Please contact us if you need further information about Student Visas.
Will I get a Certificate when I finish my course?
Yes, at the end of your course you can collect your Student Certificate from Reception.
How will I know where my accommodation is going to be?
The College will send you a letter confirming your course and your accommodation arrangements.
How do I get from my accommodation to the College?
The College will give you a map and travel instructions. If you get lost, the College has a 24-hour emergency telephone number, so you can get help.
Can I use the washing machine in my Homestay family's house?
Your Homestay family decides about this, and also if they will charge you for doing your washing / ironing.
What do I do if I need to see a doctor or a dentist?
If you are in Homestay accommodation, you will go to the doctor or dentist nearby..
