ISIS ELT Professional Certificate
The ELT Professional Certificate is a two-week intensive course that allows both current and prospective teachers to learn more about ELT methodology and the communicative teaching approach.

Who is it for?
Non-native teachers of English who wish to improve or broaden their teaching style with communicative methods and immersion techniques in line with current EFL thinking.

You might have experience working in either the private or public sector or a general background in education.

Experienced L1 teachers who want to widen their repertoire of communicative ESOL teaching techniques.

People who have been offered a position abroad who would benefit from a knowledge of methodology and classroom techniques without requiring the full Trinity TESOL certificate.

Why do the course?
The course will help provide you with both a framework for teaching that goes way beyond more traditional methods and also present practical ways in which such teaching can be implemented.

The course also aims to develop your confidence and awareness of your own teaching to allow you to reflect constructively on your own teaching.

What qualifications / experience do I need?
To enroll on the course you will need to have a high level of both spoken and written English, in line with a minimum of the Cambridge First Cert, an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL 500. ISIS Greenwich asks candidates to complete a short test to establish their capability to meet the requirements of the course.

Candidates should have either ESOL teaching experience or a background in teaching.

What does the course include?
The course includes input sessions on a range of areas, including methodology, planning, materials and classroom management. There are approximately 32 hours of input material with 8 hours practicing of technique with peers.

ESOL Methodology :
Evaluation of lesson formats (ESA, ARC) and contemporary methodologies : learner based approaches, task based lessons, lexical approach etc.

Resources and materials :
creating and exploiting materials, evaluating printed materials, useful web sites

Language awareness :
looking at phonology and key grammar areas, techniques for practicing and assessing.

Classroom practice :
presenting language, teaching grammar and vocabulary, techniques for games, role play and dictation.

Observation of regular teachers.

Regular peer practice sessions to support and familiarize you with
theory.

Completion of a weekend written assignment, giving you more time to
reflect on a specific area of interest.

An afternoon visit to a specialist ESOL bookshop with an opportunity to buy books and other materials at discount prices.

How is the course assessed?
Upon completion of the course, course members are awarded the GSE Professional Certificate. This will outline areas you have studied during the course and act as confirmation to potential employers that you are aware of and ready to implement modern methodology and teaching techniques.

No formal examination takes place though course members' performance and achievements will be noted in the certificate and members are required to complete a graded written component.

Course tutors
Course tutors are all full-time members of the training team with extensive experience of teaching at all levels, training on TESOL courses and examining.

Social programme
A weekly evening outing to a place of interest / London show is timetabled. There is also a Saturday visit to a famous city e.g Oxford, Brighton, Cambridge and a post-course dinner and social evening.

Accommodation
Accommodation can be arranged with local host families on a full board basis or in self catering en-suite apartments in a local university building.

Regular lessons on our ESOL programme before or after the course at a discount of 50%

Course members will receive a 20% discount on books and materials during the scheduled visit to an ESOL specialist bookshop.
