ISIS ELT Certificate in Teaching Juniors
The ISIS Junior Certificate Programme is one-week intensive course that aims to provide teachers with the techniques and know how to teach effectively within the increasingly important area of ESOL for the 11- 18 age group Who is it for?
Teachers who already possess the Trinity TESOL / CELTA who are or will be working extensively with junior students, either abroad or on UK-based summer programmes. The course is ideal for those who have just completed an initial training course who feel that they would benefit from further study of this key area.(Teachers who complete their TESOL Cert. at the ISIS Greenwich School of English are eligible for 20% discount on the Teaching Juniors programme.)
Why do the course?
The course will help provide you with both a theoretical framework for
teaching and a set of techniques to promote effective classroom practice
that goes way beyond the rather limited provision for juniors generally
found on initial training courses.The course also aims to develop your confidence and self-awareness within a sector that now accounts for 40% of English language learning in private schools across Europe.
What qualifications / experience do I need?
Course members should either possess the Trinity TESOL / CELTA certificate or have previous experience of working with juniors within the ESOL sector.Course members who are not L1 speakers should have a high level of both spoken and written English.
Course members who do not possess the Trinity TESOL / CELTA will be asked to complete a short test before enrollment to confirm written English level.
What does the course include?
The course includes input sessions on methodology, planning, materials and classroom management.Techniques that you might apply in your own teaching provide the basis of input sessions with plenty of opportunities for practice with peers.
The course includes sessions on relevant materials, differences with regular ESOL courses, class discipline, use of games, testing etc.
There are also observations of experienced teachers on the ISIS staff.
Course members are required to complete a short written piece of coursework on a relevant issue.
How is the course assessed?
Upon completion of the course, course members are awarded the GSE Teaching Juniors Certificate. This will outline areas you have studied during the course and act as confirmation to potential employers that you have the knowledge and skills to teach effectively within this specialized sector.
